    The Leg in the Kuf in V’Kanina

    Another essential tip when writing the Ketubah is the word v’kanina (וקנינא). It means, “we have completed the act of acquisition.”

    Make sure that the printed Ketubah does not include the leg in the letter kuf in this word. The Rabbi must complete the kuf himself, in order for the Ketubah to be valid and binding.

    Advanced tip for creating an Orthodox Ketubah:

    We can’t have the art intruding on the text of the contract itself. Why not? That could create ambiguity over what a word means, or whether a section is part of the contract itself or not.

    The text itself, as the heart of the Ketubah, is the most essential part and we can’t let anything intrude on it.
